Every Monday September 21-November 9, 2009; 8 weeks

Artist/potter Mary Lou Reid will guide the beginner potter though the basic maneuvers of creating a piece of pottery on the wheel. Hand Building skills are also introduced as well as glazing and glazing techniques. Through demonstrations and planned projects the student is able to accomplish goals and gain the necessary confidence needed to finish a pot on your own! This class is designed for the beginner but for those who have some wheel experience this is the perfect refresher course!

Mary Lou Reid is a renowned local artist/musician who has been teaching pottery and drawing for over 20 years, featured as a solo artist in BluSeed 2007 “If Walls Could Sing” gallery exhibit, and former owner of Chickadees Studio. Mary Lou is also a member of the Adirondack Artists Guild.

Ethiopian Bookbinding Workshop

BluSeed Studios will present 3 different workshops titled “The Shirt Off Our Backs!” which are designed to lead participants through three very distinct paper art and printmaking processes.
“The Shirt Off Our Backs!” will be the thematic inspiration for imagery in the first two workshops: Nontoxic Printmaking by Larry Poole and Pulp Painting led by visiting artist Jill Littlewood. The final workshop Ethiopian Bookbinding will be taught by Bob Walp. All participants will be invited back to show their work in a special exhibition titled: “The Shirt off our Backs”!
The non-toxic intaglio printing making class will be taught by local artists Larry Poole. Utilizing BluSeed’s fully equipped print studio, students will learn the photo polymer etching process (which was refined by Keith Howard of RIT) to produce intaglio prints.

BluSeedlings (for grades 3-5) and the BluSeedlings "Sprouts" (for grades 6-8) are our creative arts program for children. The program is designed and developed to inspire children to explore and discover art through creative projects in clay, drawing and painting. The program seeks to develop and strengthen creative skills, build self-esteem and confidence, develop a sense of individuality, encourage self-expression, and stimulate imagination in children.

The BluSeedlings, grades 3-5 will meet on Tuesdays and the BluSeedlings "Sprouts", will meet on Thursdays Class times are 3:30 pm- 4:45 pm. Class size is limited to 7 students to ensure individualized attention and mentoring. The fee for each six-week session is $125.00, scholarships are available. Handmade Tiles and Plaster Press Molds
Instructor: Brooke Noble
Location: BluSeed Studio Ceramics
5 Sessions: 2.5 HOURS
September 20, 27; October  4, 11, 25 (SUNDAY) 11am-1:30pm
In this class we will focus on creating original tiles with a high relief dimensional pattern. Once the tile pattern has been determined, students will learn how to make a simple plaster press mold in order to make multiples. The end result may be a one of a kind fireplace, backsplash, or a wall hanging that stands on its own. We will discuss the possibilities of installation and additional projects that may stem from this technique. Come with ideas, inspiration from a source or an absolute open mind.
