SUMMARY:Concert: Mustard's Retreat
DESCRIPTION:BluSeed Proudly Presents: Mustard's Retreat featuring David Tamulevich and Michael Hough Friday May 18th 2012   7:30pm    14.00/12.00 BluMembers http://mustardsretreat.com Thirty plus years may not seem like such a long time in the life of a human being\, a tree\, or a folk song.  But in the fickle world of modern music\, where pop stars shy of their 21st birthdays often see their careers dumped into oldies bins\, thirty years is a very long time. So as David Tamulevich and Michael Hough celebrate their 35th Anniversary as Mustard's Retreat\, the same question seemed to burn among aspiring young performers and road-weary old folkies - why you guys? In searching for the answer\, one word comes up again and again\, the simple word "audience." Everything Mustard's Retreat does on a stage is aimed at pleasing\, moving and engaging their audience. Whether singing their own gentle love songs and vivid ballads\, telling tall tales or offering treasures from America's vast traditional song bag\, a Mustard's Retreat show always feels like it's designed for the people who have come to see them that day\, in that coffeehouse\, school\, concert hall or festival. Audiences sense this from the moment David and Michael hit the stage\, are drawn to it like hungry kids to Sunday supper and reward it the best way they know how. They come to see Mustard's Retreat again and again. And again. "Mustard's Retreat represents everything that is best about folk music. Their music is community music. It comes from our common roots and traditions\, pays tribute to those roots and traditions and expands on them.  It is music that speaks to people’s hearts and lives and binds them together as an audience." -Garnet Rogers

SUMMARY:The Honey Dewdrops
DESCRIPTION: The Honey  Dewdrops Return! September 24th 7:30pm 14.00/12.00 BluSeed Member Laura Wortman and Kagey Parrish make their home in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Charlottesville\, Virginia. The couple has been playing music in some capacity for over 15 years\, but honed in on their natural duet abilities 7 years ago when they met for the first time in college. It was their love of folk music that brought them together and has since taken them out on the road to tour fulltime as the award-winning duet they are today. Writing and singing in the veins of folk and old country music\, the Dewdrops entwine harmony singing with tight instrumentation and craft songs that are simple and fine-tuned. Theirs are new songs from the southern mountains that ring with originality. After their appearance and first place win on a 2008 talent show broadcast of NPR’s “A Prairie Home Companion”\, the Dewdrops began their careers as songwriters and have since released two critically acclaimed albums\, “If the Sun Will Shine” (2009) and “These Old Roots” (2010) both of which have charted at the #1 and #2 positions on the Folk DJ-L Charts for 2010.

SUMMARY:Frankenpine - 'Live at BluStage'
DESCRIPTION:'Live at BluStage' concert series presents Frankenpine - CD release party! Saturday\, March 12\, 2011\, 7:30pm Admission: $14/ $12 for BluSeed Members Call 518-891-3799 for advance reservations Frankenpine is a Brooklyn-based string band with roots reaching from the subway platforms of the city up the Hudson Valley to the crooked mountains of the Adirondacks. The banjo and fiddle in its ranks give it a touch of bluegrass\, but the band’s original music draws on a wide range of influences—everything from blues to gypsy jazz to rock to old-time. Its lyrics are similarly eclectic\, exploring themes of loss and ambition; telling the stories of outlaws and the outspoken. The result is a set of songs with propulsive rhythms and searing solos\, tight arrangements and soaring vocal harmonies The band formed as a trio in 2007 and has since grown to include Kim and Matthew Chase\, Liz Bisbee\, Ned P. Rauch\, Colin DeHond and sometimes Andy Mullen. They play acoustic and resonator guitars\, mandolin\, bass\, fiddle\, harmonica\, banjo\, accordion\, percussion and whatever else is within reach. The band has appeared on WNYC\, WKCR (Columbia University’s radio station) and North Country Public Radio and performs regularly around New York City. Frankenpine recently completed a year-long residency at the Lakeside Lounge\, in the East Village\, and released its debut full-length album\, The Crooked Mountain\, in December of 2010.
