6 Live Figure Drawing Class

Tuesday’s & Thursday 6-9pm

6-3hr/classes: 100.00 or 30.00/class

Min. 8 participants, max. 12

Learn to draw from a model or improve your skill and/or build your portfolio. Class will consist of 1 hour of instruction prior to models arrival, then 2 hours of drawing with model

Dates: 6/8, 6/10,6/15, 6/17, 6/22,6/24

Participants must supply materials,( drawing boards and some easels available)

John La Falce was born and raised in Buffalo New York and has been an artist in residence at Bluseed Studios since last summer. His work encompasses an array of media and projects an “open approach” in style, content and purpose. He received his BFA in Painting in 2002 from Buffalo State College. In recent years he has been traveling with his art among these projects being the “Combat Paper Project” where he is a collaborator and participating artist working with returning Iraqi veterans.

Adult Photocopy Litho Workshop

Print Making Workshop

Adult Photocopy Litho Workshop: ages 16 and up

Instructor: Jessica Jeffrey

Dates: Three-week sessions: Mondays June 7,14,21

6-9pm

Price: $65 includes material, ink and 1 sheet of 22×30 Somerset paper. Not included: photocopy expenses.

Minimum: three people

This workshop will introduce students to the technique of photocopy lithography, a printmaking process that utilizes photocopies as the basic print matrix. The student will have the opportunity to put this process into practice via demonstrations by the instructor and open studio time. Each participant can expect to create a several final images in at least two colors.

Thursday Evening Pottery Class
with Peter Shrope May 20- June 24

Bluseed Studios will be conducting a six-week ceramics class for adults who have an interest in working with clay.

Ceramic Artist Peter Shrope will be teaching this class on Thursday evenings from 6 to 9 pm.

The class will encourage skill development, personal exploration and technique as well as working with glazes. Work will be fired in the new gas kiln in addition to using the electric kiln. Being on time is flexible and Peter always works extra hours to accommodate everyone's needs.

Classes will be held from 6 to 9 pm every Thursday:

May 20, 27, June 3, 10, 17 & June 24

Students receive 25 lbs of clay, use of the studio, glazes and kiln firings. Additional clay may be purchased.

The cost of the class is $175.00

BluSeedlings: BluSeedlings (for grades 3-5) are our creative arts program for children. The program is designed and developed to inspire children to explore and discover art through creative projects in clay, drawing and painting. The program seeks to develop and strengthen creative skills, build self-esteem and confidence, develop a sense of individuality, encourage self-expression, and stimulate imagination in children.

Animation Fascination (ages 11-15)

Experiment with Animation in this short introductory class through hands on experiences using traditional stop motion techniques including model, drawn and cut out animation. Explore timing, balance, weight, and dialogue in basic character creation. The final project will be done the old fashioned way with a flipbook. Fine tune basic drawing skills and prepare your self for something cool!

Bluseed Studios will be hosting a 5-week handmade tile and plaster press mold workshop by clay artist Brooke Noble. In this class, students will focus on creating original tiles with a high-relief dimensional pattern. Once the tile pattern has been determined, students will learn how to make a simple plaster press mold in order to make multiple tiles. The end result may be a one of a kind fireplace, backsplash, wall hanging or single tiles that can function in several ways. We will discuss the possibilities of installation and additional projects that may stem from this technique. Come with ideas, inspiration from a source or an absolute open-mind.

The class begins on Saturday March 20 and runs consecutively through April 24. Class time is 10:30am-1pm and is open to adults 15 years and up. The price of this 5-week workshop is $185.00 and includes the price of materials and firings.

Brooke Noble (b. 1979) received her B.F.A. from Syracuse University and attended Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, Illinois for her M.F.A. Between degrees, she was a resident artist at three studio art centers: Vermont Clay Studio, Anderson Ranch Arts Center, (CO.) and Bluseed Studios of Saranac Lake, NY. Ceramics has taken Noble to many destinations both nationally and internationally. Highlights for her include kiln-building at Good Hope Plantation in Jamaica and Studying Abroad in Oaxaca State, Mexico during Graduate School. Brooke's work has been exhibited in many reputable galleries nationwide and she also enjoys teaching classes and workshops to both adults and children in the Adirondack communities Saranac Lake and Lake Placid, NY. Noble is passionate about her surroundings and values the social interaction of making and sharing a meal while taking part in the daily ritual of utilizing handmade pots, commonly made by someone she holds dear.

WORKSHOP: Letterpress Broadside with Robert Walp

Letterpress Broadside Workshop

Class Times: Saturday, March 6th, 10am-5pm & Sunday, March 7th, 10am -3pm

Cost: $100.00, plus material

Age: 15 years & up, no experience necessary

Master book artist and printmaker Robert Walp will lead a letterpress broadside workshop on March 6 & 7. The class will start on Saturday beginning at 10am and continue on Sunday from 10am-3pm. The studio will remain open that same evening for those who would like to stay and work on their project.

This two-day workshop is designed to hone your skills in typesetting and image printing on the Vandercook proof press. Participants will combine type and relief printing processes to create a single page broadside, or broadsheet. Images will be printed from your choice of woodcut, linocut, or polymer plate. A basic knowledge of setting metal type will be helpful but not necessary.

Please come prepared with a short poem or prose passage and an image that will then be scanned and made ready to transfer to a block or polymer plate. Instructions for making polymer plates will be given at the workshop. Images can be no larger than 8”x11” and you will be allowed to run an edition of 15 one color broadsides.

Paper and polymer plate material will be available for purchase at the workshop, as well as woodblocks. If you plan to make a linocut please bring your own type-high (.913") linoleum block. Cost for this 2-day workshop is only $100 plus materials ($10.00 – $20.00).

Instructor:

Robert Walp began his bookmaking career in the spring of 2000 at Vermont College in Montpelier, Vermont. He has participated in numerous book arts workshops since then and in 2006 earned an MFA in the Book Arts from The University of Alabama, where he received the Raymond F. McClain Book Arts Award. His work can be found in many collections including The University of Vermont Bailey Library, Dartmouth College Rauner Library, Brown University’s Rockefeller Library in Providence, Rhode Island, The Library of Congress, The New York Public Library, the Penland School of Crafts Archive and The Shelburne Museum in Shelburne, Vermont.

Robert works from his studio in the Adirondacks under the imprint of Chester Creek Press and has taught workshops in New York at The Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts in Blue Mountain Lake, Bluseed Studio in Saranac Lake, the Town of Chester Public Library, and the Lake George Arts Project. He has also taught at Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina and at The Great River Arts Institute in Bellow Falls, Vermont. He is a member of The Guild of Bookworkers and The Fine Press Book Association, and is curator of the Book Arts Collection at the Town of Chester Public Library.
