Exhibition: Cloud Soup 2025
Oil Paintings on Canvas by Lauren Bulakowski
May 4th-29th
Opening Event: Sunday May 4th, 1-3pm
My paintings start as drawings in my sketchbooks. The persistent themes in my work include animal behavior as metaphor, abstract symbolism, and landscapes.
I spend a lot of my time outside in the woods and mountains. This is where my ideas and images come from.
I grew up in Albany, NY and now reside in Northern VT. I have a BFA from Boston University and an MAT from Rhode Island School of Design. Drawing and painting have been my lifelong preoccupation which occasionally coincides with exhibition and teaching.
The paintings in this exhibit include both recent abstractions and landscapes. I worked on some simultaneously, and some in sequence. I let my approach to picture making in one genre inform the other. In the abstractions there are references to both organic and mechanical structures. In the landscapes there is an emphasis on color and pattern. Often my interest in color takes over both. Ultimately my paintings represent my passion for picture making and my attempt to reconcile the natural and manmade worlds. My abstract titles refer to my hobby of wordplay and poetry. My landscape titles refer to a specific place or event.
